A young friend recently died;
It was a shock to hear.
Something that happens in an instance,
but affects the indefinite future;
when isn’t death a shock?
Yet, a sudden death makes one reflect.
“If I were to die today,
will have I lived?”
Putting life into perspective
is one of death’s few significant roles.
“Am I afraid of death
because I won’t be able to do *this* anymore?”
Whatever I do right now,
is the most important thing to me;
in this moment.
But is it really though?
The thought of death will help to answer that.
Especially for a loved one;
Mourning the dead comes instinctively
to the human condition.
Hard though it is to answer,
we need to ask:
“what good is that for?”
